Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), founded on November 15, 1992, through an agreement between the Government of Sikkim and the Manipal Pai Foundation, is the first public-private partnership in India for higher education and healthcare. Established under the Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences Act in 1995, SMU is recognized by the UGC and regulatory bodies like MCI and AICTE. It has two campuses and receives a ₹2.25 crore annual grant from the government, enabling it to provide free treatment to BPL families and concessional care to other state residents.
SMIMS is a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University, established in 1997, initially as Central Referral Hospital. Students started to take admission from 2001.
At present SMIMS has 323 expert facultyies 17965+ books, 151 journal subscription in Central Library.
